There's always a forest full of bugs
There's always a dark cave full of bats
There's always an icy cold place
There's always a mountain
There's always a haunted place
There's always a beach
There's sometimes a lighthouse
There's sometimes a desert
There's sometimes ancient ruins
There's sometimes an industrial facility
There's nothing I'm missing, is there?

Which had the best of each? What would you do to perfect or subvert the formula in a hypothetical gen8 of your own design?
>>
>>31235839
for a while there was always a bike route
and for a while, always a casino
>>

>Forest
Ilex
>Cave
I don't really care about most of them. They all tend to be bad.
>Icy Cold Place
I don't know, they're all shit. Pokemon hasn't had a good cold place yet.
>Mountain
I don't really care, they tend to be the same as caves.
>haunted place
Pokemon Tower. Maybe that house in B2W2.
>beach
All beaches are pretty much the same. Maybe the one south of Slateport.
>lighthouse
Johto is the only one with anything worthwhile, I think.
>desert
Hoenn's because of regirock
>ancient ruins
Sealed Chamber
>industrial facility
The one in Sinnoh? Fuego Ironworks? I don't remember much of it.

>not mentioning Victory Road
>>
>>31235907
victory road's not actually a profile though it's just a title. the only thing making a victory road a victory road is it being called victory and leading to the elite4+champ.
>>
>Forest
Ilex obvs (gsc)
>Cave
Union Cave or Mt.Mortar (gsc)
>Icy Cold Place
Ice path or North Sinnoh- not really sure. Probs sinnoh. Ice path was nice because it was just surprising- plus sneasel.
>Mountain
Spear Pillar or mt.silver. Alola didn't actually have a real mountain.
>haunted place
Eterna forests mansion. Maybe the alolan supermarket.
>beach
South of slate port, maybe the beaches below olivine or goldenrod- nice urban beaches- loved it. (Gsc- Hgss was too cluttered)
>lighthouse
Johto obvs- only real lighthouse. (Gsc)
>desert
Hoenn- the original and best.
>ancient ruins
Ruins of alph (gsc) (maybe slowpoke well)
>industrial facility
Virabank Complex. Or the whole of virabank desu.

if anything Castelia and Lumiose are the only ones that do it anything close to right
>>
>>31235839
>There's always a forest full of bugs
Lush Jungle. Pretty much the only one that feels like a real forest
>There's always a dark cave full of bats
Chargestone Cave is my favorite cave altough it has no bats
>There's always an icy cold place
IDK, maybe the snow routes in Sinnoh
>There's always a mountain
Mt.Coronet
>There's always a haunted place
Old Chateau was hella creepy
>There's always a beach
I like Undella. It's comfy
>There's sometimes a lighthouse
Olivine City Lighthouse. Onyl decent one
>There's sometimes a desert
I might get shit for this but the Alola Desert.
>There's sometimes ancient ruins
The Unova ruins. If only the Regi Chambers and unlock chamber were more stylized though
>There's sometimes an industrial facility
Kanto Power Plant best plant
>>
>>31236172
Lumiose is too bloated and it's a pain to move around. Castelia hit a sweet spot between being being and manageable to navigate
>>
>>31236172
>Lumiose City
>better than Mauville
>better than fucking Goldenrod City
eww
>>
>>31236255
Mauville was only barely salvaged by oras and even then was laughably underwhelming for the central hub city of the region

Goldrenrod had basically nothing going for it other than being a celdadon knockoff
>>
>>31235839
>Forest
Petalburg Woods or Pinwheel Forest.
>Cave
Chargestone Cave.
>Ice
Lake Acuity, or that area outside of the Frost Cavern in XY.
>Mountain
There aren't very many that are set on the mountain itself rather than inside it. Mt. Pyre is probably the best.
>Haunted place
Old Chateau for actual spookiness, Strange House or Abandoned Thrifty Megamart for cool factor.
>Beach
South of Slateport, or Hano Grand Resort.
>Lighthouse
Glitter Lighthouse obviously wins because there's nothing to compete with it.
>Ancient ruins
BW2 Victory Road.
>Industrial Facility
Sea Mauville.

Best way to improve all of them would be to increase the variety of Pokémon you can find in each. That's why Chargestone Cave is so good, because instead of just being filled with bats and rocks you can also find tiny arachnids, old machinery, and smelly metal fruit.
>>
>>31236332
And I somehow managed to forget the deserts. Have to go with Unova Route 4 and Desert Resort in BW (even if I don't like how it doesn't make much sense geographically). All the industrial work going on was neat, and it has great variety just like Chargestone Cave.
>>
>>31236295
Goldenrod has a tonne of stuff though, the Department Store with shops and the Daily Drawing Corner, Goldenrod Tunnel with the photo studio and shops, Radio Tower with Lottery and Buena's Password, Voltorb FLip, it's next to the daycare, has a whole underground network, it's one of the best big cities.
>>
>>31236182
Best taste in this thread for the most part.

The Hoenn Desert was better and Chargestone Cave was bad overall and I've got nostalgia clouding my judgement for caves (I've got Mt. Moon and Mt. Silver coming to mind and both were quite shit in terms of layout/mons)
>>
>>31236482
Like this is so true tho- it really was an amazing city and the styling of it in gsc was actually amazing. It was beautifully simple.
>>
>>31236503
They obvs have never been a real forest then
>>
>>31235839
>>31236143
Kalos looks fucking terrible and unmemorable.
>>
>>31236615
It looked like somebody pissed on it. GSC Goldenrod is one of the ugliest cities in the franchise.

Cannot fabricate.
I do like how every non-main road in the city is some sort of back alley that all the house are on. But at the same time there are more houses than most cities in pokemon.

>>

>>31236687
Someone's obvs never visited undella town, or lumoise City, or most of alolas non Japanese stuff.
>>
>>31236668
>Horribly simplified map
>Big circular desert in the middle of lush fields with absolutely no transition
>Weird strip of snowy areas
>Those fucking disgusting rivers
Kalos was a mistake, I wish Lysandre had succeeded and fucking nuked the shithole.
>>
>>31236991
I didn't like the colours as much, or the weird placement of the unenterable houses. Also the radio tower is a tradegy. And the gts could have been done a little better. Still considerably better than lumoise, new mauville and anything alola had to offer. Castlia was ok but the graphics were stretcher way to far and it became awkward and ugly in places. The best bits were the alleys and sewers.
>>
>>31236897
>What are Paras and Pinsir
>>
>>31237091
Alola is as bad? It has what, two? Three actual towns? And the ranchy bit? Idk I feel everything bled into everything else where it needed to be separate and vice versa when it needed to blend if that makes sense. And the routes were all awful compared to like unova, hoenn and even Johto and Eastern kanto
>>
>>31237200
ula'ula island alone is more memorable than the entirety of kalos

> the weird placement of the unenterable houses
Yeah it was really better on GSC
>>
>>31237200
I think they intended for Alola to feel more rural than previous regions. Hawaii is seen as a tropical escape from the big city and I think they captured that.
>>
>>31237200
Alola is underwhelming, but Kalos is bad

>>31237131
I like the colours, because it fits with Johto's more rural theme for me. Plus, the random house placement made it feel more natural than say, Saffron. Agree with everything else though. I think the Radio Tower would look GOAT with say, Gen V's art style

>Forest
Eterna Forest. This is one of the three good looking places in Sinnoh.

>Dark cave
Mount Moon. Simply because I'm most used to it. I don't like any of them.

>Icy Cold place
North Sinnoh. If Mount Coronet counts as one, then Mount Coronet. It was boring as fuck, but it at least looked good.

>Mountain
Mount Silver.

>Haunted place
Old Chateau for spookiness, Strange House for feels.

>Beach
Staleport

>Lighthouse
Johto one.

>Desert
Desert Resort. No competition. Hoenn one was good, but too small.

Abyssal Ruins were the most interesting one.

And as NPCs state throughout the game, the only region within Alola's reach is Kanto; every other region is quite some distance away.
A rather rural tropical escape being near the most-barren region in the series makes sense.
>>
>>31237324
But other regions have felt rural without feeling so empty
>>
>>31237498
I'm 75% sure that's just from it being in full 3D. Not to excuse how bad some of them are.
>>
>>31235839
There's always a light house, always a man...
>>
>>31237661
That's definitely it. Notice how we haven't had skyscraper cities since the DS. Lumiose, Mauville and Hau'oli are mostly short buildings, because the jump from 3D overworlds and sprites, to 3D overworlds and models has not been kind to the regions
>>
>>31237715
This but also Paris doesn't really have a lot of skyscrapers, except at La Défense (the business district).
And Hoenn didn't had skyscapers too in gen 3.
>>
>>31237775
Mossdeep has skyscrapers. But I think Hoenn is also the most comparable region to Alola, especially as it drew inspiration from Okinawa (another Pacific archipelago)
>>
>>31237775
Yeah, Hoenn didn't. Well, Rustboro, sort of.

Mosdeep is technically still part of kyushu I believe. Still in the archipelago area though. The reason for the space center is because that's basically where japan launches their rockets irl. I think Evergrande is the only one that's technically Okinawa since it's flipped around Naha.
Hawaii, more specifically Honolulu/ hauoli and especially Kyushu have skyscrapers though, but that's either a design choice or limitations due to 3D. They almost always scale down the locations they base places on.
Tldr autism.

Pretty pointless since it uses outdated screenshots.

You should be using FRLG, HGSS and ORAS. AlsonBW2 and Platinum where applicable

Most of these have nothing to do with fire.

In the absence of a formal fire themed area, I used where the highest single concentration of fire types were in that region
>Pokemon Mansion
Growlithe, Vulpix, Ponyta, and Magmar
>Burned Tower
Magmar, lore linked to Entei and Ho-oh, no other fire associated area in Johto
>Firey Path
Slugma, Numel, Torkoal
>Stark Mountain
Numel, Camerupt, Torkoal, Magby, and Heatran
>Relic Castle
Darmanitan and Volcorona if you count interior and exterior together. Makes it the only area in unova with more than 1 type of wild fire pokemon
>Route 18
Heatmor and Torkoal, only area in Kalos with more than 1 type of wild fire pokemon
>Wela Volcano Park
salandit, magby, and magmar, plus fletchling and cubone
>>
>>31238568
Wasn't there the volcanic area in BW2 by the western town. Albeit, I think it was an extinct volcano in one version and active in another. It had heatran, but I'm unsure if it had other fire types due to it being extinct in one version.
>>
>>31237050
>undella town

there is literally nothing wrong with BW2 Undella
>>
>>31238568
Reversal Mountain has magma

You should use Cinnabar Volcano out of principle
>>

the volcano itself wasn't actually a location you could go to in the first gen though. also reversal mountain had two versions, in one it was just water, no magma.
