I never played VGC before but this gen I played VGC a lot. Feels less autistic than before and it's usually more fast paced.

I just don't like doubles that much but VGC 2017 metagame is very diverse and nothing is broken.

Terrain wars,weather wars,usually trick room and porygon2 are huge threats.

VGC and OU aim for different things, really. Smogon metagames aim to make as many different playstyles and as many dfferent Pokémon viable, while minimising frustration from random chance.
The goal of VGC is to have fast-paced games that are unpredictable and good for spectating and also Celesteela
