His concept makes sense for a Dark-type, but you could easily paint him as a Fighting-type in purely design as well. If you were to ignore his flavor text, you might not even be able to tell. Additionally, he's a biped that looks like a human with a cat mask, a tail, and claws.

He's a faux Fighting-type that's justifiably Dark-type, but you can tell they made him look just as "Fight-y" as his contemporaries (Emboar in particular.)

If he was a face wrestler instead of a heel - which is a superficial distinction to people who aren't into wrestling, i. e. most people - then he would have been Fighting. That's why it's such a debate; if you don't know random specific information, he looks like a Fire/Fighting that's Dark because "o dang we can't do that again lmao"
