How do I make Pokemon games more challenging? I've never been interested in competitive, so I'm only interested in playing through the games with some set of restrictions. I know about nuzlockes and mono-type and stuff, but I was wondering if /vp/ had any more creative ideas.

Turn off exp sharemod it
do a wedlocke or any of the other lockes

In any important trainer battle, limit yourself to the amount of pokemon the opponent has, so if you're opponent has 3 pokemon then you can only use 3 pokemon, and only those 3, and if they faint you must reset, you should also limit healing item use during battle, (i.e. 3 potions/status items/ full restores/) and no revives during battle

I did this kind of run for my second playthroughs of XY and SM, and it made the expierience a lot harder and a lot more fun
>no exp share
>limited party size (usually 2, once I got farther into the game I would start using 3. also, if an upcoming gym leader/important NPC had a large party, I would match however many mons they had.)
>try to stick to pre-evos (middle stages usually)
>always try and stay 3-5 levels behind the average opponent's mons
>switch out some party members after every important fight (you usually have to do this anyway, if you want to stay underleveled)
doing these things made the expierience ten times better. having to go through a challenge makes that "bond" with your pokemon a lot stronger.

Do a route challenge.
>have to catch one Pokemon per Route
>if your team is full, replace the oldest member (e.g. box starter on sixth Route)
>optional 1: if a Pokemon is defeated, it counts as dead and must be released
>optional 2: can only catch the first Pokemon on a Route

It's not the same as a nuzlocke tho.
