Since it is never really explained in your opinion what would Ash have to do to fulfill the idea of being a pokemon master?
Is it as straightforward as winning a regions pokemon league and defeating the Champion? Or is it more like the cliche where Ash is an old man who "understands" pokemon. Wandering around in a hooded cloak with wild pokemon eating out of the palm of his hand.

"Pokemon Master" just means "best trainer in the world".
Which seemed like an achievable goal back when Kanto and Johto had the only Pokemon League, but when the series introduced more regions with their own Leagues and Elite Four, the term "Pokemon Master" was dropped, and has never been mentioned past Gen 2, with Lance's mention of it being changed to "Pokemon Champion" in HGSS. The only reason it hasn't been dropped from the anime is because it's Ash's stated goal and it gives him a reason to keep going to new regions.
Ash has stated in the anime that winning a league won't make him a Pokemon Master, it'll just bring him one stop closer to becoming one.
So, Pokemon Master isn't just something Ash will never accomplish, it's something nobody can accomplish, because it doesn't exist.

>tfw finding one piece and becoming pirate king is more of a feasible goal than pokemon master

exactly, its kinda like the title of being the best in sports or other hobbies, so long as there are people in waves trying to reach the top, there will never be a best. just temporary giants who run their course until they lose steam.

>One Piece will most likely wrap up before Ash obtains "Pokemon Master"
It certainly seems that way.

This. There is no definition of Pokemon Master. They've constantly wheedled out of ever giving any real details to the point where it's clearly meant to just keep the anime going for however long it stays profitable.
Did the anime ever say it was by catching them all, by the way? There's so many genwunners and retrofagging 90s kids that insist that's what it means, is that something we just all assumed?

before ash knew about the league in the kanto saga, he stated that catching every single type of pokemon was his goal and since being a master was his tagline people just made the two synonymous with each other. but that was only the american version, the japanese version really didnt put emphasis on him catching every type he found. the phrase gotta catch em all only existed in america

2(two) genders
Yes, when he wins the league.
That's why he can never win, the show would immediately end if that were the case.

yep, XYZ baited that so good. The whole second half of the series seemed like ash was gonna win it and then hang up his hat especially with his speech to lysandre about "future trainers", noooopppeee.

Lance calls you a Pokemon Master when you beat him in Gen 1 and FRLG.
>Lance: I hate to admit it, but you are a POKéMON master!
The term is mentioned again in Gen 2 in the Rocket Hideout -
>Lance: The journey to becoming the Pokémon Master is long and difficult. Knowing that, will you keep going?"
But in HGSS, it's changed to:
>Lance: The journey to becoming the Pokémon Champion is long and difficult. Knowing that, will you keep going?
Pokemon Master was basically the same thing as "Champion" back then, but it was dropped when it was established that other regions had their own Elite Four and Champions.

So Ash have to do is win a league and challenge the regional Elite 4 and the champion, or he has to fight and win every leagues and Elite 4 and champions from Kanto to Aloha?
