Alot of fags here nickname in a lame attempt to be witty(bonus points for jojo references)

I nickname because it helps me connect to my Pokemon more, especially with any main game team I use.
For the most part I use either obscure mythological figures or the first names of performers as names (Setanta, as an example of the first one, and Phi-Phi as an example of the second)
There's no real trick to it, you do it if you want to, and if you think it's stupid, you don't.

As for me, I just like to have fun with it. I do actually name my pokemon dumb puns or references. I try to be creative and come up with clever names, but it's ultimately a for fun thing for myself. I've never really done serious nicknames though, like giving mons human names or anything.
