The easy answer is that the foreshadowing was there for Ash to beat Alan (He'd never beaten him, he'd perfected Ash-Greninja, it was their final battle) but the rule of Ash never winning was stronger than the rule of Ash always getting a win against his rivals.

To be honest, the league's ending doesn't really play into the rest of XY&Z at all. If Ash had one, the Flare Arc would have still started immediately, it would have played out exactly the same, and outside of a throwaway "I can't challenge the Elite Four because Kalos is messed up, but I'll come back and do it some day after it's fixed" line to explain why he leaves, it could have happened the other way.

Even though Amour was canon its odd it didn't make as big an impact on the fandom as you would think. If you said a decade ago a main girl would actually kiss Ash and have a crush on him and the director would say its endgame, people would have either laughed or been shocked.

I'm glad Amour is basically canon or "implied to become canon" or whatever you want to call it, but what does it really change about the anime as we know it? The answer is, not all that much. Pokemon will still continue to be Pokemon. Ash will keep traveling to all kinds of places and meeting new people and catching new mons and having new battles. That's what this show is about.

If you like Amour, take heart in what Yajima said. But don't lose sight of the show's heart and soul, which is battling, adventure, competition, friendship.
