The reason he stole Type null is also because he need weapon againat UB. The "he love the dog more than his sister" reasoning is actually false. Young Lillie is more or less a deadweight while Null is useful for his goal, nothing more or less.
Gladion is actually a rather goal-orientated person.

And drawing parallels between both of their escapes is kind of hard, considering Gladion's escape pretty much used Lillie as the scapegoat, resulting in Lusamine being even more pissed off at Lillie, while Lillie's escape not only harmed no one, but also saved Nebby and pretty much ruined Lusamine's plans.
