the transformation shouldnt even be called ash-greninja. i guess it sort of looks like him to an extent, but when ash goes to the ninja village and first learns about a special greninja in the anime, the legendary greninja is transformed like "ash-greninja". and thats in the legend of the ninja village, the reason the ruling family in the village raise greninja of their own. its annoying that they call it ash-greninja because im pretty sure ash saw the depiction of the legendary greninja, and even if he didnt we should know about it, but it gets named after him because wow it gets red and black on its head so it must have transformed to specifically look like its trainer! it feels like either everybody forgot that episode or dont even know it exists and just spew out bullshit about the battle bond greninja

Well it became a game-event thing. Y's Croaky was always a solo frog. Y rarely actually issued it any commands and it evolved both times on it's own to save others.

It evolved the first time to save Y from having her head cut off and it evolved to a Greninja to splash the entire team + Green and Diantha to tell them to stay cautious.

Y rarely actually did anything with her Greninja.

The Pokemon franchise has always had odd cases like this. For example, Surfing Pikachu only exists because the makers of the TCG thought it would be cute to release a card of Pikachu on a surfboard. Since then, it's found its way into nearly every corner of the franchise at one point or another. Ash-Greninja isn't the first Pokemon variation that didn't come from the games.
