Yeah, because there's a limited amount of specialists, usually 12 or 13. In SM there are literally 17 acknowledged specialists. Every single type except for Ice, which has had a specialist every single generation until now; the late-game ice challenge was a staple. It's not strawgrasping.

I used a team of Ninetales (traded), Sandslash, Glaceon, Lapras and Froslass (Dawn Stone traded) with my starter Primarina and it was somewhat like Ice specialising. I did not even intend that but if that fits, that is cool. My only problem is a lot of these mons either are unavailable or come really late. Glaceon and Crawbrawler acquisition comes into mind, and Froslass is not even available until after the E4 or if you were lucky with Pelago. Other Ice mons available are Sneasel and Scan Swinub, I think. I cannot think of many other Ice mons.
