>>
>>31096614
I would rather Xerneas got Play Rough than the Tapus.
I was the judge for the Juniors and Seniors at a Regionals a few months ago, the winner had a Choice Band Xerneas with Close Combat, Rock Slide, Horn Leech and Moonblast. It was great.
>>
>>31097334
Physical Xerneas sounds quite fun actually.

By the way, can you tell us about the experience of being a VGC judge? How do you get it into it? What's the work you have to do? Do you do it for free?
>>
>>31097460
I've answered questions in these threads a few times before
It's just volunteers from the community. There's a scheme on pokemon.com to sign up for it, but the actual tests are entirely spirit of the game (how to deal wit upset children, how to deal with people bragging about hacking etc.) so you still get judges who have never even played competitively and wouldn't even begin to know what moves, abilities and balls are illegal.
Usually we're paid a booster box for a regionals, two for a nationals. Not usually much for a PC.
>>
>>31097526
Thanks m8.

>you still get judges who have never even played competitively and wouldn't even begin to know what moves, abilities and balls are illegal.

I guess that's why worlds and streamed events are always full of old men as judges.
>>
>>31097143

>>
>>31097760

>>

What do you even hit with Playrough on Bulu?
Muk still shits on you all day.
Garchomp shits on you before you move.
Celesteela still doesn't care.

>>
>>31097760
To judge at worlds you need to be friends with actual TPCI employees, which generally means you do actually know about Pokémon.
There's still a bunch of TCG judges put on VGC for no reason though.

>>
>>31102220
I like it too. I found it fun thinking of ways to deal with the inevitable thundurus/landorus leads. Just the other day I woke up with an idea in my head of mega gengar and raichu. Fake out lando, icy wind, then outspeed it next turn and KO with shadow ball. Meanwhile, thundurus can't do much besides taunt, or swagger if it had it. I think raichu was super underrated that year.

I've found it better on pokemon that don't deter intimidate already (for fear of becoming an essentially useless item).
AdOrb Lele is a pretty good example of what I consider a better pick for the item.
>>
>>31104677
Milotic was sent to tourneys with it, it never worked because it already freaks intimidators out by just being Milotic.

I guess it's good on support mons that usually run sash. Sash is a good item but there's a lot of Gigalith/Ninetales going around too, so maybe as an alternative it could work.

He used a turn to setup so you have the momentum on your side if you use 2 attacking moves.

I find the generally best strategy is to target down oranguru first because ignoring him is too costly.

I'm trying to figure out what oricorio does. I guess pheromosa could quiver dance, then oricorio feather dance so that phero can survive something.

Also, 205-127. Is a 60% win rate good? Is all you need to get high on the ladder to play a ton of games? I never do more than 50ish.
>>
>>31112157
>I guess pheromosa could quiver dance, then oricorio feather dance so that phero can survive something.

Oricorio's ability lets it use a "dance" move immediately after something else using a dance move, regardless of speed.

>>
>>31116781
Roar and Whirlwind are pretty great moves. They also hit through Protect, which surprises a lot of people.
>>
>>31111554
I find harder to prevent TR if the Oranguru has Sitrus. If it's Mental Herb I just double-target it with Lele (so no Fake Out shit) and something equally strong.
>>
>>31117765
The problem is that a lot of teams can KO it by double targeting it, or they can taunt it, but there's no way to know which you should do until you've scouted their item.
>>
Anyone got a rare kitchen level 5?
I'm trying not to use injection, but their one last pokemon for me to get to level 100.
>>
>>31117710
While Roar and Whirlwind are useful, outside of mental herb Oranguru, Taunt is better as it lock the pokemon down, either forcing a switch or an unfavorable turn following.
>>
>>31117921
Yeah, I used it against Eevee for a while, but it still requires hitting the Clefairy/Smeargle and then the Eevee slot the next turn.

if you're supposed to give your cartridge to the judges for a hack check

then how do judges even check on digital copies?
>>
>>31118082
TPCI just don't know what to give VGC players. At the International Championships, TCG players got an exclusive playmat and a promo card with a resale value of about £30. VGC players, with the same entry fee, got a baseball cap with a resale value of about £5.

To be honest it's better when they give VGC players/staff TCG merch since at least it's easy to sell.

I've been running AssVest incineroar right now, it's pretty good. Having a psychic immunity in the age of top lel is always nice and has a lot of useful support moves (fake out, u-turn, snarl, WoW if you use another item). I expect it to become very popular once it gets Intimidate, but even now you can see it as a bulkier mienshao with a different typing.

International Championships got something like 550 players, which is bigger than any nationals since 2014 IIRC
The three premier challenges in the UK since then have gotten 9, 8 and 6 players though, so having your biggest event at the start of the season clearly kills off all interest
(Keep in mind you need eight players for it to be worth CP)
>>
>>31118237

>>
>>31104619
Dhelmise I can't help you on, I'm of the same opinion it's kinda useless. Even in dedicated Trick Room there are even stronger abusers of it.

But Incineroar is almost certainly AssVest usually with a bit of investment in speed. It's incredibly bulky far more than most people would give it credit for and is one of the only things in this whole meta besides Metagross who threatens Top Lel.
>>
>>31111554

>>
>>31123200
It can also run trick room support in a similar manner to how the assault vest variant works, but run some defensive status moves. Dropping the vest to run protect can help it scout and bait, along with running fake out and u- turn. Protect, fake out, u- turn, and will- o- wisp is an alright option, but I prefer flare blitz in the last spot. In conclusion I believe that fake out/protect can provide the type of support Incineroar could use to be productive at the cost of dropping the assault vest.
>>
>>31102069
why was japan so fucking dominant in 2015?
>>
>>31123769
japanese players were the only ones that took XY's battlespot (which had NatDex no penatgon mons allowed, unlike VGC14) seriously and thus had like 2 years of practice in that format. CHALK was also simply too consistent even against opponents who crafted their team to beat it.

Plenty of trick room teams have Garchomp. It's fast, but it's bulky enough to not need to outspeed, and it very much enjoys being able to outspeed things like Ninetales and Tapu Koko.
The majority of successful Trick Room teams have fast options anyway.
>>
>>31124431
Of course.
>>
>>31123725
Quite frankly I believe Incineroar is just one of these things which doesn't want to be running Protect. It has no place sticking around if it doesn't have anything to do.

Leave support sets to Arcanine, it's far superior at that kind of thing. If you have to run Fake Out on Incineroar than do so but leave the rest of the set for coverage and just settle for being fat.

>>31123920
I'd argue the real lynchpins of CHALK was simply Heatran and Land-T. Those are just two Pokemon which are just made in a way that makes them near perfect in any team.

Heatran's amount of resists/immunities combined with it's offense and defenses is just plain unfair.
>>
>>31124254
So with HP Ground what would be the best set to use?
Discharge/Flash Cannon/HP/Protect? TBolt over Discharge if I'm running a move for Marowak?
>>
>>31124875
tbolt over discharge yeah, you need the big damage and your team doesn't have any other ground immunes besides marowak.

Otherwise I guess you could run both over hp ground

Alright, one other moveset question I've been having trouble with, which move on Marowak should I be swapping for protect?
Rock Slide, Bonemerang, Flare Blitz, Shadow Bone
>>
I've been seeing a lot of figy with random pokemon, like arcanine or gastrodon and it's very annoying.

Speaking of arcanine, lots of people have been saying they have trouble with it. How would you deal with it? I've been thinking of running krookodile. Z ground OHKOs, and I assume most arcanine won't be outspeeding krook.

If you mean "can I keep the same set of notes from game one of a Best of 3 round through to game 3" then yes.
For reference, a game is a single fight in the game (from team preview through to one player losing)
A match is either one game (in Best of 1) or the set of 2-3 games (in Best of 3)

You obviously can't look at notes you made in your last round's match though, and if you play against the same person once in swiss and once in top cut, you can look at your previous notes up until you get to the table, but once you sit down you've got to use a blank sheet.

why rock slide celesteela? why not protect?
>>
>>31135727
I figured that under Trick Room, Celesteela would need another move to be effective offensively, I have a general lack of spread, and I wanted something to be able to somewhat threaten fire types who would be trying to counter Celesteela. Is Heavy Slam and Seed enough damage for a wincon if I have to rely on it?
>>
>>31135785
If you want to subseed your opponents to death you will definitely need protect. I don't think cele should be trying to do much to fire types and a non-stab rock slide isn't going to do much damage to them anyway, and cele isn't fast enough to fish for flinches. Go with protect over rock slide.

Alternatively you can give it flamethrower over substitute if you're worried about kartana. Even a 0- flamethrower will ohko it.
>>
>>31135798
Should I be worried about Kartana?
>>
how many hours until stream starts?
>>
>>31136357
Not that guy, your team isn't particularly weak to Kartana, so it shouldn't be a problem as long as you don't end up with it against Tapu Lele or Porygon2 without support from Gyarados or Marowak.
Fire attacking is generally quite nice to have though, and Rock doesn't hit particularly well. The only common things weak to it laugh at Celesteela (Gyarados, Arcanine, Marowak) so you'd really just be fishing for Trick Room flinches. It's boring, but Protect and Wide Guard are good options there too. There are far too few situations you would want to use any attacking move other than Heavy Slam with Celesteela.

They're meant to use the downloaded rules, but as long as the judges know what's banned (mega stones, Greninja etc.) the only difference is that FEAR doesn't work in World Championship rules due to autolevelling, so I imagine a lot of organisers would just let people use flat rules.

Vikavolt @ Buginium Z
Ability: Levitate

EVs: 236 HP / 252 SpA / 20 SpD
Quiet Nature
IVs: 0 Atk / 0 Spe
- Bug Buzz
- Zap Cannon
- Discharge
- Hidden Power [Ground]

i use a heavy trick room team with specs magnezone and this guy kind of gives me the specs zone feel.

what do you all think?
>>
>>31140504
I'm translating Sejun's notes if anyone's curious.

Tapu Fini
>Good offensive/defensive typing and bulk with 252 HP
>Misty Terrain is mainly there to erase Psychic Terrain and Electric Terrain due to its slow speed, but also helps other mons tank Z-Draco Meteor. Protection against status conditions is a plus. (gives peace of mind against Discharge paralysis/Blizzard freezes)
>Muddy Water can OHKO 252 HP A-Marowak, hits both mons so Gastrodon isn't as effective.
>Mainly there to hit both mons hard with Choice Specs Muddy Water/Dazzling Gleam; Scald and Moonblast for Wide Guard shenanigans

Porygon-Z
>People expect Z-Conversion and attack instead of using Protect, so this set catches them off guard.
>Adaptability Tri Attack has 37.5% chance of OHKOing 4 HP Tapu Koko; Ice Beam is for Garchomp.
>Hyper Beam is for when he really needs the firepower. Dark Pulse is there to be able to hit A-Marowak with Arcanine/Kartana as partners.

May have inaccuracies, but I'm pretty confident I translated things correctly.
More to come.
>>
>>31142927
>Zap Cannon

>>
>>31142927

>>
>>31142927
Why use Zap Cannon? If you need more power you could run Thunderbolt or even Thunder and have less risk of missing.

Also if you're not planning to run protect, I would consider using an Assault Vest.
>>
>>31142927
>Zap Cannon
Being heavy trick room, there's no benefit on paralyzing the opponent, and the accuracy is terrible, might as well use thunderbolt for consistent damage, or thunder if you really want a strong attack, but wouldn't recommend to rely on it outside of rain.

that makes sense. I still prefer protect, since it probably won't get the OHKO on any tapu, and your STAB moves are probably a 2hko on all of them except Koko, which won't do too much to you anyway, but if it works for you then it's a decent choice.
Maybe HP Ice or Energy Ball would be more valuable if you want to hit dragons or Gastrodon, if they give you any trouble, really depends on the rest of your team though
>>
>>31142957
Arcanine
>Intimidate support + Fire type attacker partners well with Fini.
>Z-Flare Blitz doesn't give recoil, and is pretty safe to click. Great against P2 and A-Muk.
>Wild Charge is nice against Gyarados, Pelipper and Politoed with Gastrodon as a partner.
>76 HP for Hail/Sandstorm, Speed investment is for +1 Xurkitree, Sp Def is for Download shenanigans.
>Lead if Celesteela is on opposing team. Rest of the mons don't really care about Celesteela, so he can safely target down the other mons and set up a win condition with Celesteela vs. Arcanine.
(Having trouble translating his notes on Extremespeed other than "priority move with good power")

Kartana
>Also has good synergy with Fini, good against Water types and Tapus excluding Tapu Koko, and puts great offensive pressure when paired with P-Z.
>Celesteela with Heavy Slam as its only attacking move can't do shit to it, which allows it to target down other mons.
>>
>>31143336
A-Muk
>Great survivability with Figy Berry, strong against A-Marowak and Tapus.
>Also good against Trick Room setters, and has a nice priority move in Shadow Sneak
>No notes on EVs other than that its almost the same as the original team's EVs, and that he's thinking about changing Speed investment to counter other Marowaks investing in speed.
(This team is based on a team a friend of his found on Google after school finals)

Gastrodon
>Good synergy with Arcanine against rain teams.
>Also used against Tapu Koko and Garchomp (unless Groundium Z), who quickly become annoying if left alive.
>No special notes on EVs, isn't really used unless opponent has Trick Room or has problems against Gastrodon. Can influence the opponent's choice of mons even when it isn't being used.
