Well i had way more fun with XY than with SM

SM had better characterization for the region and its people but overall failed because it didnt use most of them in the story (which was mainly Lillie)

XY gives you more freedom, there's more Pokemon so even in the late parts of the game chaecking the grass/mountain areas is still exciting unlike in SM where its constantly Gumsoohs/Raticate/Pelipper/Trumbeak everywhere. XY also has actual dungeons, Sm has almost no caves or they're super small. I also feel like XY had more NPC trainers in general while in SM there's not so much of them as usual

XY is more laid back, SM tried too hard and it just didnt pay off in the end

It's hard for me to say which set of games I like more. On one hand I never want to set foot in Kalos ever again. My least favorite region ever. SM felt so refreshing after XY. But on the other hand, trying to do anything after completing the story mode in SM makes me want to kill myself.

Nah, this is just shit taste. The two tracks you hear most in the game, the wild battle music and the trainer battle music, are way better in XY than in SM. Also, the best tracks in XY completely blow the best tracks in SM out of the water. End of story.

Some anon a couple weeks put it pretty well: GF was able to include a decently developed waifu character this gen and the majority of the autists here ate it up, neglecting tons of other flaws in the game

XY is far more fun to replay than SM, that's for fucking sure

I don't have to mash through cutscenes I've already seen through the entire game and the wild pokemon variety is actually good for once

The best things about SM are the QoL improvements but the multiplayer connectivity is such a step backward that it almost cancels itself out.

XY had a lot of bland tracks, sure, but its best tracks are among the best in the entire franchise. See: Successor Korrina, Battle! Xerneas, Kanto Legendary remix, Snowbelle City, etc.

When XY were new, all the bland shit stuck out like a sore thumb after all the excellence of BW2... But after the bland ORAS soundtrack and SM's admittedly good but laid-back soundtrack, XY's diamonds in the rough blaze brightly by comparison.

SM = XY > ORAS

SM greatly improved many things but totally botched online and EV training, core pillars of gameplay. XY were boring but were unbelievably convinient and lended well to competitive and online. ORAS had tutors and new megas, but was boring, and were visually uglier than XY with fewer good music tracks.

All have critical flaws.

SM has the best single-player experience by far, but its multiplayer is shittier to a noticeable degree.

XY was boring (worst single-player experience of the three), but is tied with ORAS for best multiplayer.

ORAS is boring. Its single-player experience is a bit better than XY, but the visuals and music are somehow worse on average. New & important content was added, but there is like zero replay value compared to SM or XY, if solely because of there being FAR fewer Pokemon to choose from for the first 3/4 of the game.

I put over 1,100 hours into X just having fun breeding, battling, collecting, etc.

OR, I put maybe 150 hours into.

So far I've put about 100 hours into Moon, but that will increase once Bank updates. I can't see putting 1,000 hours into Moon, though. There simply are fewer Pokemon I need to breed in order to catch up. Festival Plaza is a joke... at least Battle Spot still exists. I still have to dick around with UB and Battle Tree.

Other than music (which is easily the worst one from the franchise) I agree, but that's exactly why XY is shit. All of those things that you mentioned are just improvements to the franchise. XY is still a fucking atrocious game that's not worth replaying ever.

VI is uglier and has far less likable characters and personality/tone. The overworld is uglier and washed out. The mechanic it brought changed the game far more drastically than that of SM, and by essentially requiring the use of certain Pokemon as a result, this is arguably for the worse. XY was a lot less smart than SM with its "genwun pandering," such as copying Gen I's legends for the postgame, Viridian Forest, and making the first encounter Pidgey no matter what. With Alolan forms and Red and Blue, VII's "pandering" was more comparable to V's, which is pandering done right. Gen VII had a much more varied soundtrack than XY's, which was almost entirely synthy electropop and whimsical, refined classical-sounding furniture music (which was mostly forgettable). There was far less postgame than SM, with no new area to explore beyond a tiny room in Terminus Cave and the miniscule Kiloude City. The battle facility was less inspired than that of any other game.

And that's without mentioning VII's good features, such as mixing up the game's formula, adding in a bunch of fun and interesting gimmickmons, Ultra Beasts and a fun story (don't get me started on XY's plot), and Poke Pelago.

They're both fine games, and you can feel free to have your opinions on each, but it shouldn't be so difficult to see why people like SM over XY. It's not all black and white. because we all know those are the best
