What the fuck is with the bullshit road blocks in these games? Why can't I just fight her and get past? It's not like there's something on Hano Beach that would break the game if I had access to it before doing EVERYTHING ELSE on the island. Why am I not allowed to EXPLORE?

I feel like in most games with a simulated space (Fallout, Zelda) the point is that you can choose which direction you go. Pokemon has a simulated space but there's a very much required path you have to take if you want to progress. You could just lay out the entire world in one big straight line and you wouldn't change anything from a gameplay perspective.
