Espeon is my favorite in-game competitive mon.

I keep trying to switch to another staple but that SpAtk/Speed combo ends up making it my ingame sweeper every time. e.g. this gen I tried to make it Arcanine but the type coverage wasn't there (and when it was the recoil was a pita), then Sylveon and the speed wasn't there

I think he just means that he likes the Hawaiian flavor they have since they're totems. For a region based on Hawaii there's surprisingly little Hawaiian themed-Pokémon.
