In my literal short of 20 years of playing Pokemon, I still never got what the fuck Normal type could be useful for in competitive, or even past the fourth gym.
What's the use of slotting a good Normal mon into my team, /vp/? and which Normal type?

It's more a matter of good moves and stats in general. Normies gets neutral damage from pretty everyone that's not using a fighting move, plus some of them can really save your butt when in a pinch. My zangoose pretty nailed almost the entire houenn elite 4 alone.
Mega Salemence
Mega Kangaskan is great, Smeargle is great for setting up entry hazards on account of learning every move.

>Normal type
Arceus getting stab extremespeed
A lot of them are physically bulky, which is useful both in-game and in a competitive battle. I didn't appreciate Normal types until recently, but these guys have a lot more potential than people believe they have.

I feel like normal types werent created to be strong. You've got to remember that this was a single player game in GEN1 with the extra feature of linking up.
Pretty sure normals were made as throw away early game mons. Now of course that has changed and they kind of got stuck with the typing and needed it to adapt but it's still the same core idea. All of the strong normal types have a "rework" like the megas or a gimmick/dual-typing usually

Normal is probably my least favorite type. A few are pretty cool but overall there aren't that many normal types I really like.

exploud is my nigga
also, a lot of normal types get a lot of type coverage in terms of learnable moves.

You have no idea what you're saying.

Wigglytuff is still Normal. I didn't know this until very recently because I mainly play TCG and all Wigglytuff cards are Fairy now.
Did pokemon showdown threads die? I used to frequent those like 1-1.5 years ago.
Normal is pretty good offensively as a neutral attacking type. Only three resists and most good Normal-types have coverage options to hit those types super effectively.
