Well, I play since pokemon red, and gen 4 still is, for me, the highest point in the series. Introduction to DS platform, favorite pokemon, awesome plot, endless new features, best region... Starting gen wars is stupid, so I encourage you, and all /b/, to stop it.

Between 5 and 6, I don't know which is worse (for me!). The 6th seemed forced in a lot of things, but I was only able to finish the 5th's games because my friends were still playing with me back then. Many people liked those, and I still struggle to understand why.
