I've talked to my cousin's teenage kid a couple times about Pokemon. His knowledge about the game is so ridiculously flawed that I wanted to gouge my eyes out. Consider yourself lucky.

I love vp because it's the only place where I can freely talk about something I love. I love this shitty fucking community. No one else really gets it and I feel ashamed talking about it with people who don't really know anything about pokemon as a whole.

Tried to talk to my cousin during Christmas celebrations. He was the one who first introduced Pokémon Blue to me when I was about 5 years old.

He really likes to play the games but that's it. I tried talking to him about leak season, about data leaks, about information on Pokémon Stars, about Pokémon Prism, but couldnt get much discussion with him

When the Pokemon GO craze hit and everyone was talking about Pokemon I thought I'd finally make some friends to play the games with, but then literally everyone looked at me weird every time I brought up the real games on 3DS and mentioned Sun & Moon, with some of them asking if SM would be available on Android. So I grew to absolutely hate Pokemon GO and normies even more.

I'm almost giving up on playing the new games because of this and just sticking with rom hacks and wacky playthroughs, that way at least I can make the single player stuff interesting.

I don't understand how this could be the only place you find people to talk Pokemon with unless you're one of those autists that actually gets mad because someone only knows about gen 1 stuff. Pokemon is probably the most mainstream "nerd" fanbase you could be a part of after Star Trek.

Especially after Pokemon Go came out. That got my mom to take a bigger interest in Pokemon (being "Pikachu is cute" I mean) and now I have a hobby I can share with her.

Well I'm glad shy guys/gals like you can find an outlet on the Internet, but at the risk of sounding patronizing talking to other people really isn't that hard. If someone's going to get on your case because of what hobbies you enjoy then they're probably an asshole and not worth being friends with to begin with (assuming they're not just teasing you I mean).

Any decent friend will be willing to hear you talk a little bit about something you love even if they have little interest in it. But you do need to have a bit of common sense as to how much you can indulge in something like that before it gets on someones' nerves.
