Gladion was never meant to be hateable and edgy. He's just a loner/pessimist with a heart of gold who loves his pokemon and learns the power of working with others when you storm Aether together.

Though he's still tsundere afterwards and doesn't want to admit that you're his best friend despite giving you a precious chimera doggo

I like to think it's a combination of both minor nerve damage from Null AND him just being a chuuni fuck to hide it, personally.
Yeah, his left arm's a little bit fucked up, spazzes out every so often, but to show Null he's alright he started exaggerating it and doing 'cool' poses and shit. Makes Null feel better, makes him feel better and feel like a badass (except it makes him look like a dweeb trying to be an edgelord).

There's always stuff like that, especially when it involves things that are gameplay-necessary but don't necessarily fit in the story, like the Memories.
The third version might fix it, or it could just be left unexplained, like Ghetsis giving you the Orbs in BW's postgame.

For Silvally they could have just recycled the Plates or had some hidden room at Aether where they were stored, but it's not the strangest thing.

From what we hear of Lusamine, she seemed pretty controlling. It wouldn't be too much of a stretch to infer that she'd been dressing up Gladion like Ultra Beasts too. Between this and the situation with Type: Null, he felt like running away from home. So an eleven year old out on his own for the first time is obviously going to be a total rebel. Dressing in all black and hanging out with Team Skull. Yeah, mom would never allow that. But he's on his own now, so he does what he wants.

Despite that, however, Gladion is still a good person at heart. He wants to give Type: Null the life it wouldn't otherwise have. When he realizes Team Skull for the crooks they are, he fights against them. So no, he's not edgy, he's just going through a phase, and he has decent justification for his acting that way.

Would Gladion be a good father?
