Had a 4 IV Bagon and a 5 IV father in the day care. Bred out a full box and got 3-4 IV at the very most. Got quite frustrated and took the parents out to make sure their IVs were right. Their IVs were right, so I chucked them back in there and bred out another box. Same shit. Decided to swap out the father for something different, as a placebo if nothing else.

I went to switch out their held items and the father had been holding a Lucky Egg the entire time. Didn't notice as I deposited them. Didn't notice as I double-checked their IVs. Wasted two full boxes worth of Dragon eggs.

When I first started playing, I didn't know ANY of the basic rules of Pokemon, so when I casually played Stadium with my bro we did things like:

>use Hyper Beam on Gengar
>have Electabuzz and Scyther battle each other just like the anime and then wonder why Electric was super-effective to Scyther
>thought who went first was decided randomly or a certain player always went first (i.e. always P2)

And that's just the stupid stuff I still remember. Luckily, I got a LOT better with the rise of the Internet and player guides and stuff.

I'd actually guess that that's the common introduction to Pokemon rather than the exception. The games can easily be enjoyed and beaten without knowing a single thing about them, so the vast majority of new players will do stuff that seems incredibly dumb to (presumed) adults on the internet posting on a board dedicated to Pokemon.

Earlier this year I found a shiny friend safari Clefairy with my Synchronize Gardevoir up front, and I believe the Gardevoir was about 8 levels higher. I forget what attack I used, but it ended up OHKOing the Clefairy. Felt kinda bad.

Don't find shinies often enough for that to cross my mind. Found a shiny Solosis early in my Y game, weakened it slightly and spammed Luxury Balls until I got it. Became my best bro that adventure, too.

I thought a "baby Pokémon" was any first stage Pokémon, not counting Pokémon that got cross-gen evolutions after gen 2. And because you can't breed baby Pokémon, I evolved every single Pokémon to its second stage if I wanted to replace a parent while breeding.

When GS came out, I believed my older brother when he said that males were stronger than females, so my team would only have males on it. Based on the way IVs determined gender in that gen, he was actually right.

For some reason I keep thinking Magnemite and its evolutions have Levitate and struggle trying to kill them without Ground-type moves.

I was breeding Bagons. I didn't have the nature locked in, so I put a Power Bracer on one Bagon and the Destiny Knot on the other

Only 10 eggs did I notice that I put the Bracer on the one with imperfect Atk.
