There's this one man in the battle tree named Gentleman Jerry who claims that he can't lose because his grandchildren are watching him. His defeat quote is "Sorry... your pappy lost." Maybe I'm looking too far into it, but it seems to me like his grandchildren are dead.

Judging by how the French line has a gender variable tag, I assume you get the line regardless of if you're a boy or a girl. I think English is the only language that makes it sound like a date, though. The Japanese 付き合って is somewhat ambiguous as it could mean to date or to just hang out. The Chinese text explicitly says "join me for a round of golf'.

In this context, it means "date". The other meanings of 付き合う just don't work in this context. There's nothing to the line beyond just that one line itself that makes other interpretations possible.

Eh, no, the line above it uses 付き合う for her just tagging along with her dad and the line below it uses 人付き合い for human relations in general. The three lines make more sense together when you consider how she found out she liked golf by spending time with her dad, so she wants to spend time with you to see if you can broaden her interests too.

Also, with the context of those other lines... yeah, definitely a mistranslation, and one that was made by looking at the line in a complete vacuum, as I was doing.

Which is really sloppy of them, since trainer dialogue like this SHOULD be translated as a whole.

It's (near) blind. When the dex says it can't tell the difference between anything it's not sociopathy. It legitimately cannot tell what's happening around it outside of if it's made of meat or not.
Since you are made of meat it's going to eventually eat you if you leave it outside of the pokeball and not even realize it.
