The powercreep that the split brought is high enough that most crits are crippling. Getting my Latios critted by a Fire Blast in gen 3 isn't as bad as it getting critted by a Flare Blitz in gen 6.

Oh, and that Mega Blaziken also has Night Slash because the split was awesome guys.

So on Frontier you'd just Recover the damage, on Battle Tree if it's Speed Boost you fucking lost. If it's Mega Blaziken you lost anyway.

The split made Pokemon a game where everyone can kill everyone. This is bad for a mode where you can lose dozens of hours to a single loss.

It gives some Pokemon a chance in hell.

It suddenly clicked for me in Sun/Moon when I was actually training a Seaking for the first time. Why hadn't I ever trained one in the first three gens, and then it always got glossed over by me in 4/5/6 when there were so many fucking water types?

Easy. A lot of Pokemon used to have completely inappropriate stat spreads for their types/typings. Physical water types were often victim to this.

It also just mentally clicks better. I, for whatever reason, have a harder time memorizing the idea that all Ghost attacks are physical, than simply intuiting something like Shadow Claw will be physical, and Shadow Ball will be special.

The only negative consequence of all this is it's pretty much impossible to come back to pre-DP games, because you forget what Pokemon are outright useless before the split happened.

That's an issue with Blaziken more than the split.

You have to remember they also handed chicken Speed Boost and a Mega with Speed Boost in later gens, buffs that are separate from the split.

It sounds more like you had a long streak, got critted by usual Battle ___ hax and decided to blame it on the split.
