>pokemon wasn't meant to become an esport
>fans force it to become one in GenIV
>act surprised when people start cheating
Why even bother? This is why in-game has suffered, all for the sake of the "competitive" scene.

>in-game has suffered
How?

>pokemon wasn't meant to become an esport
90% of esport games weren't meant to either
Get over and git gud

Post-game has suffered ever since the main series moved to 3DS
Heck, even the main game suffered because people just want to rush to competitive right away.

Game Freak/TPC themselves turned Pokemon into an esport by hosting official tournaments and creating VGC.
And since the beginning, one of Pokemon's biggest features has been the ability to battle other players. A competitive scene forming was an inevitability.

I hate the term eSport, and wish people would stop using it. Playing with a competitive spirit and having tournaments should not make something a """sport""" to anyone.

>Playing with a competitive spirit
This, and not being an artistic endeavour, is literally what makes a thing a sport. Your colloquial usage of sport to mean athletic shouldn't be anyone elses problem.

>Sport (noun) - an activity involving physical exertion and skill in which an individual or team competes against another or others for entertainment.
Pokémon does not require significant physical exertion, ergo it is not a traditional sport.
It could be considered an eSport, however. A word isn't limited to the definition of its root.
