It's a very calm form of Autism, but there's one guy in the Shiny Hunt Weekend threads that's going for a legit shiny Manaphy.

For those unaware, the only way this is possible is by finding a copy of Pokémon Ranger for the GBA that has not had the Manaphy egg already removed, then transferring it to a Gen 4 game.
After that, you walk to hatch it and see if it's Shiny ID and your profile's match, in which case it will be shiny.
If it isn't, you have to trade it to another Gen 4 game, and try it there.
Supposing only two carts, you then restart the game on the one without the egg, then play to the point that you can trade and check the egg again.
This altogether takes about 20 minutes for each try.

The thing is, Richard was kind of right at least in the sense that the game is an abstraction of the "reality" of the Pokémon universe.
