I was 12 when those generations were 'competitive', but Psychic as a type was strong since no weaknesses, you could more than 1, and heck, I remember more Starmies than Exeguttors. I may be wrong because I was just a toddler learning the game, I git gud at Gen II, not Gen I.

But I do remember the shit from Gen I, like Persian being a critical hit machine or the wrap/thunder waves combos you saw on some mons.

It did in the sense that every mon could basicaly do the same thing.

Every team had bullshit screens t-wave spam, blizzard spam, normal spam and since everybody and their mother learnt these moves, most mons were pretty interchangeables.
