You could argue that Glaceon and Leafeon are based on the regional foxes (summer red fox, winter arctic fox), and that Vaporeon is just a mix of whatever the fuck.
However, Espeon is based on the bake-neko/nekomata, and Umbreon is arguably based on Bastet and lucky black cats of Japan, so they're the only ones that appear feline the most desu
