This Pokémon is pretty cool, too bad it´s locked until the very end of the game

Good taste anon, Tyranitar has been my favourite ever since Gold.

It's a shame the mega just gets sand stream again.
It'd be interesting if it gave up its ability to create weather on switch in and got sand force/rush which it would immediately benefit from.

Pheremosa, makes it a liability desu. You pretty much have to run Excadril turn 1 or somehow bring it in safely to deal with it.

That's not how the SpDef modifier works. It bumps its stat by 50%, not its base stat. That means it changes how much its relative base stat would be by how much investment is put into it.

Also, its Mega isn't very useful.

>>30703637
:^)
Unrelated but how does sandstorm work with assault vest exactly? How does that number compare to the base star?
>>
>>30703551
Well I feel like megas are a great opportunity to completely change the approach on a pokémon, play it differently.
This is why Mega-Heracross is good (concept-wise), or mega-Aggron, even Mega-Garchomp, while Mega-Lati@s is boring as fuck.
Changing type is a good way to offer a different playstyle, like with Pinsir, Mega-Ttar is too close to the original and is only better at DDing.
>>
>>30703682
Base stat*1.5*1.5 is what you would have under sandstorm and with an assault vest on. Off the top of my head, I'm almost positive Tyranitar has base 100 special defense. If fully invested, that number is 328. So, 328*1.5*1.5= 738.
>>
>>30703835
That makes sense. Adding even more potential sets for pokemon

Not him, but Tyranitar and Sand Stream is just such a classic match I don't know what would top that. I was kind of hoping the mega would do something like the Primal evolutions, making the sandstorm permanent again, but oh well. Maybe if/when Johto is revisited he'll get a buff.
>>
>>30704207
Pics please. I'm pretty jealous tbqh.

>>30704299
Well as I said before, something more different, not just raise all its stats proportionnaly. Make it really fast like Megagross, make it mixed, make it really bulky and lower its Speed... There were so many different possibilities. Even the ability is the same, this proves how lazy they were with the mega. I don't even know why Ttar was picked in XY, I'd rather have them wait a few more games and make a more original one. Design is alright though.

>>
>>30704548
>he's never OHKO'd with Pursuit
Nothing as satisfying, I promise.
>>
>>30704548
That would be pushing it, and offensively Rhyperior would still be the superior user thanks to ground stab, 6 extra attack points and accessories to mega horn.

Tsking away weaknesses is a shitty way of improving a Pokémon only shitty theory crafters do.

Solid rock could be good in Mega, but getting a 1.3 resistance on both spectrums to SE hits is inferior to 50% spdef increase in spdef given how the damage is calculated and Tyranitar trolly hp stat.

Base Ttar needs sand stream, to keep Ttar useful without sand stream you need an offensive(doubles) or pivot ability in singles, sheer force in singles could actually carve it a niche with intimidate in doubles used offensively with a decent bulky non recovery Ttar could actually work.
>>
>>30704650
>>he's never OHKO'd with Pursuit
This is true, but I 5/6-0'd many people with one DD+mega evo. My issue with pursuit is that it only works when the opponent switches out, while crunch is always 80 BP.

Oh and if for some reason after bank we still won't be able to transfer old items/obtain them in some other way I'm quitting competitive and probably pokemon SM in general. I NEED my mega T-Tar
>>
>>30704516
>Maybe if/when Johto is revisited he'll get a buff

Wasn't Tyranitar ranked 50 in OU? The abundance of Pheromosa in OU makes me nervous to be honest, though it'd be hilarious to wreck BL and UU with him, if only for a bit.

I imagine the Aegislash fans had a good laugh with him in OU as well.
>>
>>30705093
Yeah that's pretty bad. I had nothing against Phero until I noticed it shat on Ttar. Now I hope it'll get banned just so that Tyranitar's usage rises.

But I'm sure there's also a big new toy syndrome that will wear off and that Tyranitar will rise in usage in the end of the gen.
>>
>it can't be harmed by any sort of attack

>is weak to more than a third of all types
>>
>>30705380
Pheromosa is absolute glass cannon but her presence means that TTar will basically have to switch out upon hitting her so little chance of running DD.
>>
>>30700410
Good thread
>>
>>30705386
Compare to pre GenVI Sableye which had ZERO weaknesses and... oh? Where were they? NU, UU, you say?
>>
>>30705380
I think part of the problem is simply that TTar cannot be accessed in the actual game so there's no incentive to use him.
>>
>>30706039
>>30705838
True. But anyway I think it'll eventually raise in usage.
>>
>>30704173
But Sand Stream is Tyranitar's signature ability. Tyranitar is the first (and best) user of it. It'd be like asking how to run Kyogre without Drizzle (pre-GenVI), fundamentally altering the playstyle.

Sand teams are not slow, only because of Excadrill.
If you want to go the bulky way, use mega Chomp for absurd damage.
Assvest Rhyperior is pretty memey.

I know but 515 special defense in sand plus solid rock sounds like it could be fun

Tyranitar is my favorite Pokemon, and what do they do for its Mega?
They reference my favorite final boss from my favorite game. Holy shit I was not expecting Tyranitar to go full Psaro the Manslayer and I love it.

I always imagined it as having a low tolerance for bullshit, so it just refuses to fight after a certain point. That goes double for Fighting-types and their wacky kung-fu bullshit. Think like how Ash's Charizard took a nap at the Indigo League.

Probably for Cloud Nine.

what is that spoiler pic from?
is it supposed to be a t-tar?
it looks really fucking cool...

He should be fine. If Phero gets banned, he'll rise back up in usage, and if Phero doesn't, he'll be top-tier OU.
