Tbh fire is always the way to go, there's always better grass/water mons but fire types are so rare that other than legendary pokemon the fire starters are the best fire types

Gen 1: I picked charmander cus Charizard was my and everyones favorite pokemon from the anime
Gen 2: Picked Cyndaquil cus fire types were so rare and grass/water were everywhere in gen 1
Gen 3: Picked Treecko cus he looked the coolest
Gen 4: Picked piplup cus water was my favorite type at this point
Gen 5: didn't play cus my ds was stolen
Gen 6: Chose froakie and nicknamed him Terry cus of the key and peele skit on the plane about terrorists and "terries gettin froggy"
