In Gen 5 important NPCs also had a special line after doing damage to them for the first time.

I really liked this feature

the music changing for their last mon in gen 5 was really neat as well
emergency music overriding everything was awful though

pokemon has had so many cool ideas and extra touches over the years but they always ditch them in the next games
guess i should accept the fact there will never be a 'perfect' pokemon game and i will continue being disappointed til the end of time

The last mon music was the god tier music, the regular gym battle theme has been underwhelming since gen 4
