The entire reason they did it this way is because so many people were complaining about HMs. I guess you can't make everyone happy.

I prefer it this way, since you don't have to clutter up your movesets with useless moves, or carry around an extra Water-type with Surf/Waterfall/Whirlpool/Dive. They could've done it slightly different than the Poké-Uber system they have now, like for example allowing Pokémon to learn moves that don't take up a moveslot that they can only use out of battle.

But I'll take this over HMs.

In most game you'll end up having your Water-type carry Waterfall, Surf, Dive/Whirpool

You also either have to dump in one pokémon or distribute absolutely useless moves like Cut, Rock Smash (remember it used to be 20 BP), Flash or Defog

And it limits your team-building, either because you save one space for your HM slave, of because you need to always carry at least a Water type and a Flying Type unless you feel like walking everywhere or backtracking to a pc to retrieve a stupid fish just to cross a minor water route

I'd like it if they had a nice compromise.

HMs no longer need to be learned. All you need is the right badge or trial for anyone pokemon that could technically learn the move to just use it.

So once you get the surf badge, any water pokemon and most normal types can just surf, you just need 1 in your party.

I like having poke-slaves, even better if they don't take one slot of my party.

From a lore perspective, yes. HMs were much more in line with the adventure feel of the series. You felt like you had to rely on your Pokémon to get places and do things. It felt like really exploring.

My only complaint, which is a minor one, was that once you've unlocked all the ridemons, there's no sort of decision making involved. I would actually appreciate it, from an exploration perspective, if you had a limited number of ride slots and had to choose which were assigned from say, a PC or something. This way there's an exploration incentive to revisit locations you come across even after you unlock all the rides.

I'm sorry, we just got a remake of a game with EIGHT HMs in it and there are people who are legitimately upset that HMs are no more?!
