Maybe I haven't been in competitive long enough but I remember everyone wanting perfect 6IV Pokémon last gen. Was wanting 0IV's in attack for Sp attackers, for example always a thing? Is confusion really that common?

Yes, yes it was always a thing. Regardless of whether confusion is common or not, the fact of the matter is that the lower ATK on dedicated special attackers is strictly better. 0 Speed is also a common want for other species.

Sounds like only real time saver in getting 0IV's in a stat is hacking, or going for a specific HP. I'd like to think something like 31/19/31/31/31/31 would be fine for a spatk if you're not genning.
