Because everything about the plot, characters, and the interactions with you was bad.
Best point I can bring up is comparing the Gym Leaders in BW and the Captains/Kahunas to the Gym Leaders and E4 of Kalos.

Every fucking one of them had a special encounter or interaction with you. You and Burgh helped retrieve Munna from Plasma. Kiawe shows you his fantastic sense of humor in his trial and Mallow. If you have Sun, you even get to learn about his dreams and his job problems.
Ramos, the Grass leader for Kalos? Just sits in his Gym and does literally nothing the entire game.

Compare how many times you saw and got to know Kukui and Alder compared to Diantha. Hell, compare how many INTERESTING interactions you had with Diantha to the boring ones with either two and you'll find her lacking.
Fuck, you don't even fight Alder the first time around, you have to rechallenge the E4 a second time in order for him to challenge you as a Champion since you've already proved to him you're more than strong enough to have earned your title.
Kukui literally helped guide you every step of your journey, watching your progress through each island before placing himself as your final obstacle to becoming Aloha's first ever League Champion. Oh yeah, that too, motherfucker literally makes the League from the ground up in his region.

What does Diantha do? She pats you on the back for beating bad old Team Flare, which she didn't help fight or anything, or even really seem to care about at all as Kalos Champion.

Don't even get me started on how shoe-horned that fucking giant guy was, can't even remember his name his name he was so pointless.

That's literally just the differences in the quality of characters too. Someone else could do a better job of telling what's wrong with the gameplay itself.
