Mizuki / Gladio is the best and most realistic pairing for feMC. Their actions, ideals, and goals are the most aligned of any pair of characters, yet differ enough to support a healthy relationship.

Lillie and Hau is the best pairing for Lillie. She'll get the strong masculine figures in her life that she has lacked as well as the extremely welcoming community.

I think the other guy's description is probably more accurate, yeah. If they wanted the abstraction of the word to heavily imply a relationship, they perhaps could have picked a different word, as he mentioned.

At the same rate, its a game for literal 6-year-olds, so leaving that as 95% literal, 5% suggestive phrasing over something more suggestive isn't too surprising. I'm far from fluent though, so really who knows.
