Still, they're in there now. Maybe follower Pokemon wasn't their intention, but since they're already all done I would consider it very likely that Game Freak would recycle them in the future for something that the fans have been asking for. It's good press for very little work, and they don't even have to worry about it alienating the casuals.

The second Pokemon moves on from the 3DS (since the Pokemon models are high-poly as fuck), we're definitely getting more uses and more appearances of Pokemon on the overworld. It wouldn't surprise me if that was the whole gimmick of Gen 8 - some kind of hybrid of Poke Ride, HMs and follower Pokemon.

Gen 8's gimmick is overworld Pokemon

Nearly all of this is completely superfluous and adds very little to the gameplay itself - it'll simply be Game Freak's way of saying "look! With this new hardware, we can actually show off our 10000+ poly Pokemon models in the overworld"

This big issue is that all pokemon will have to be to scale. meaning you can't just walk around with a wailord behind you. I am sure they could make a cut off of 4' or something like that but then you would all complain that your favorite mon can't follow you.

Nope. The animation for walking and aim are in seperate files. Pikachu has separate movement and actions for snap.

I think they were trying to make a following system but having the models walking around in full detail in the overworld would obviously lag. If there is a Pokemon Stars on the switch, I imagine it would be able to handle it.
