Silver and Gold introduced a TON of good features to improve the series, HG/SS did the same years later. Best Pokedex, best story, best game world, and having a Pokémon follow you that wasn't just Pikachu was awesome.

I still don't know why Game Freak hasn't double-regioned games since.

I honestly didn't like HGSS, before playing it Johto was my favourite region and GSC my favourite entry.

Instead of having fun reminishing the past my reaction actually was "I liked this?". I don't know, the whole journey felt kinda bland and I dropped it as soon I reached the battle frontier.

BW2 has 7 towns in postgame. HGSS has 10, but BW2 also has White Forest, PWT, challenge mode, a fuckton of legendaries to catch and a bunch of other stuff.

HGSS postgame was really good too, but really aside from Gym Leader rematches and the Battle Frontier, there wasn't as much to it.
