Mostly because before the Decidueye hate, Owlfags non-stop shitting on Litten and Popplio and acted like their starter was a competitive God. They've been more or less on damage control ever since the stats were leaked and have been holding onto hope that they'll be the next Greninja. Most people that picked other starters are sick of their shit so now there's a decent amount of Owl hate.
He's also the third slowest grass starter, only faster than Torterra and Chesnaught. Let that sink in.
