Defintely a close contender. IMO Platinum is a little more, with satan dimension and the end of reality at stake. But it is certainly close.

Brendan/May: stopped a meteor from killing us all and went into the earth's magma wearing a special suit. Also flew over hoenn on a legendary's back

Lucas/Dawn: went into an alternate dimension and stopped a group from recreating the universe. Also stopped them from harnessing the energy from a pokemon that was inside a volcano

Nate/Rosa: stopped a group from feeezing unova with their flying ship that shot ice rays.

Calem/Serena: stopped a man from using a laser to destroy Kalos

Sun/Moon: caught pokemon from another universe and stopped al ovecraftian horror from controlling someone's mother and using her to bring it's race into our world

Red/Hilbert/Hilda: stopped some bad guys

I'd say Nate/Rosa, who were forced into movie stardom, became the owner of a business emporium and then battled pirates in a flying ship with an ice cannon and elite ninja bodyguards who's boss was trying to fuse dragons together.

ORAS Brendan/May had it pretty bad too if we take the post game story into account.

After the first fight with Lusamine, I look around at all the characters and thought about how Sun and Moon did "friend characters" right and how X/Y fucked up so badly.

As for the most entertaining journey (story-wise, not game-wise) it was probably Red and Blue. Simple story and simple bad-guys.
