Odds were 1/8000 in Gens 3-5, and 1/4000 in Gens 6-7. High enough odds that most players will still never see a Shiny while regularly playing.

B2W2 introduced the Shiny Charm, and there are various little tricks and methods you can use to increase your chances of finding a Shiny, like SOS chaining, and Fishing.

gen VI, I encountered 19 total, 16 of which I caught.

first shiny was when I was horde-farming scyther in Y. got a shiny swablu. I'm pretty happy with it.

also got electrike, sandshrew and zubat from hordes, though the zubat was while I was EV training.

dexnaved a numel in OR just before the elite 4.

randomly encountered a metapod in Y.

Masuda method'd a furfrou, two froakie, three ralts (2 female, 1 male), a shinx and a pachirisu in gen VI.

had a fun time with shuppet. I found one randomly while EV training with hordes, but all my moves were either normal or multi-target (so no way to kill the others off) I eventually watched it struggle itself to death.

naturally, I was a tad unhappy with this outcome. so I swapped out double edge on my venusaur for energy ball, and horde farmed for two days until I found a replacement.

I also accidentally killed another shiny shuppet while EV training shortly before SM came out, so my overall record is 1 for 3.

in SM, I chained a shiny rockruff between akala and ula'ula islands (story wise)

I've since beaten the game, and am now 800 eggs into a shiny mimikyu attempt.

I used slyveon and I got a shiny female on my first try. Sylveon is immune to dragon rage and has high special defense so it's nearly unstoppable. The only thing that stinks is constantly getting poisoned so grow some Pecha berries in Pelago before you begin.

In total I've got 137 from Gen 6 onwards (Except my Kyurem/Virizion which I got in Black 2)

As far as purely random ones I got a Noctowl and Weepingbell in X, plus a Wingull/Tentacool in Emerald but unfortunately I no longer have them with me.

Most of them are from the friend safari before I started breeding for them, then with ORAS I went back to SRing now that I probably wouldn't take 13000+ resets like with Kyurem, and now I'm doing SOS chains in Moon while I wait for bank to get my shiny charm cause it was the whole reason I started a living dex.

No not yet. I don't know if I will because I prefer to have a synchronizer in battle so I can get the nature I want. The only time I didn't use a synchronizer in battle was the cute charm male Sylveon because I didn't want to risk getting a male salandit. But I can't deny that smeargle is good for sos chaining, it's just not my style, so I'll keep using a synchronizer and switching out to my false swiper parasect every once in a while to switch wild Pokemon to make sure one doesn't run out of pp. I also have over 300 Leppa berries now so I don't need to conserve by continuously recycling one because chances are I'll get the shiny before I run out.

Before I lost my Gen 3 and 4 games in middle/high school, I had about 8-9 shinies. Zubat, Pidgey and I think Spearow were from Gen 3 and I found a Jolly Fearow on Route 228 in Diamond, but the fucking game froze up and all my data was lost some weeks later.

I now have a shiny Lotad, Poochyena, Wurmple and Oddish from Emerald (I had a shiny -Atk nature Feebas from Emerald also but I gave it to a friend), and a shiny Joltik from Chargestone Cave from my White 2. As far as Gen 6, I have (with the exception of the shiny U.S. event legends) 539 shinies since X and Y came out, and I've been hunting since in ORAS to try and complete my shiny living dex, but only 398 of those shinies are actually part of my living dex. I'm hoping that Popplio and Rowlet will be new additions soon.

I considered this but heal block only lasts 5 turns. Considering I'm using synchronizers and no synchronizers learn heal block I'm going to be wasting a turn to switch back to my synchronize pokemon and then heal block will only be effective for like 3 more turns. It sounds even more tedious than swapping to my scyther to false swipe, which is what I've been doing.

Destiny knot = taking 5 ivs from both parents
Power items = Guaranteed IV passed down to the respective stat they increase
Flame Body/Magma Armor = Eggs hatch twice as fast.
Original Kanto pokemon holding an everstone = Kanto babies instead of alola variations...Pika, cubone, and exeggcute withstanding

Got this guy on my 37th egg. I've never been so lucky before. Had to use an ability capsule on him though. 31/26/31/31/31/31. Any way to get that attack stat on point? Can someone explain to me how bottle caps work? I've heard that they don't actually raise the IV, it's just a placeholder. But if I went into battle with a bottlecap trained Snorlax, would it have the same damage as a 31 atk IV snorlax?
