The fact that it takes the Mega slot is completely irrelevant considering Mega Salamence is/was tied with Mega Kanghaskan as the absolute best non-legendary Mega in the game, so whatever other crap you're attempting to run is likely already inferior to Salamence.

The only possible advantage DD Garchomp could have over Mega Salamence is different set of resists and immunity to Prankster T-Wave, but priority got nerfed hard this gen so it's not even that relevant anymore.
