It's always been this way

The only main version that breaks this pattern in the whole series is Leafgreen and the original Green.

Black and White are Red and Blue (look at the box legendaries' eyes)
HG and SS, again box legendaries
Pearl and Diamond
Ruby and Sapphire
Gold and Silver
Red and Blue

Why not? Zekrom's lightning is blue and Reshiram's fire is red. Even the logo of black2 white2 got red and blue

Even though their elements are the opposite colors, what black 1 and white 1 want your attention to be drawn to is their eyes.

Genwunner pandering is ruining the franchise.

Blue/Orange and Red/Green are contrasting pairs.

It's always a cold colour and a warm colour, and whenever they get the chance they involve related typings and themes to that too.
