Looks more to me like a random encounter in a persona game.

Too many elements that look handcrafted or manmade as opposed to more organic or naturally originating parts.

Of course, this is also a far from perfect definition. Everybody draws the line in different ways. For me, pokemon like genesect, klinklang, and type: null are all fine, because they are explained and justified through their lore. But something like dialga strays too far for me. It has a lot of adornments that seem tacked on to the point where it doesn't look like it move naturally. Some people will say that's ok because it's a legendary, and that's fine, but it was definitely the first pokemon introduced to the series that made me think "this doesn't look like it belongs in this series". UBS on the other hand are all fine, because you wouldn't expect something from another dimension to look too similar.

The point of Pokemon is to simulate ecosystem with real life animals replaced with similar beings with a twist. They are mostly relatively simple because nature itself does not overcomplicate. The point of Digimon is to create a battle-capable AIs that are able to more or less form a society. They are overdesigned to show that they are advanced, complex structures, with humans taking part in the creation process one way or another, and as such the "ugly abomination" way isn't really a bad thing.

We can run a simple test. Something that clearly distinguishes Digimon from Pokemon is the Eye Style. If you add an eye from pic related onto a Pokemon and the result could easily pass for a Digimon, then i say you have a winner. There are some designs in both franchises that could pass for being the other (I could see stuff like Gigimon becoming something that I could see in a Pokemon game).

However when people compare the two they use the "edgy" designs from Pokemon and that's just reaching. The edgy Digimon designs are overly-detailed, wear a lot of manmade items like robes or BDSM outfits and sometimes feel like different bodyparts from different creatures were used to make them a-la Frankenstein like someone mentioned above.

You can't just say something like Diancie looks like Sakuyamon.
