What went wrong
Hard Mode:"My favorite Pokemon isn't here" is not a good reply

No genies, can't be balanced without em
It's on a shitty system that no one bought

Literally only the platform.
The scene was big and then after EVO it took a beating.
This isn't SF or something where a dedicated fanbase would stick, the game was great it just needed a better platform to work with, not the WiiU.
HOPEFULLY they try again on the Switch.

I loved the game
the only big problem was I didn't care for much of the roster sadly. I still play it every so often though

If my favourite Pokémon, Milotic, was in it I would actually be mad it would not fit at all.
I loved this game but I haven't played it in quite a few months, I should pick it back up.
im not buying a trash wii u. if they port it to the nintendo switch then i will play

I personally couldn't get into the 3D aspect of it. If it played like a mix between SF and Sm4sh I would have probably ate it up.

I think on the more entry level side with regards to player skill, the game is a bit too much rock paper scissors over the Attack-Counter-Grab triangle.
Also that comeback mechanic is ridiculous
The core gameplay isn't fun at all and there isn't even a large amount of variety to make it fun to at least dick around with everything, also local multiplayer is a shitfest.
The game also feels very unresponsive in general.

This. Nobody into fighting games that didn't have all 3 consoles anyway had a Wii U. No, Smash Bros doesn't count as a fighting game.
As a fighting game, the story is long and boring, while online you get wrecked if you don't know how to play fighting games.
The core gameplay was quite good, it was even actually decently balanced. It also did suffer a bit from, as OP mentioned "My favorite Pokemon isn't here, so it's shit".
Also, Hawlucha wasn't in it, so it's shit.
Using the tekken combat system instead of smash bros system.
we could also blame the wii u and his bad reception as a console.
Pokemon is a success because handheld systems are accessible and have many games.
Wii U failed in both.
As another point it has a limited roster of pokemon
A limited roster in this kind of games is a death sentence.
Kinda like not putting an arcade mode on street figther v at his launch.
The game is good but needed more to shine.
