How do I check my IVs in sun/moon and what the fuck even is an

I recommend reading a breeding guide, getting a 6IV ditto, then choosing what type of play style you want for your minior.

IVs are generated stats each pokemon has from birth, ideally you want a 'perfect pokemon' which is max ivs in all fields or in some cases a specific number.

You can check them post game in your pc after talking to an npc in the battle tree I think

You get an IV checker from the Judge in the battle tree after you beat the game.

It rates your Pokemon in the PC.

>No good: 0 IVs

The rest are somewhere in between, but in 99% of cases all you will use is 0 or 31.

Realistically, you get a hacked one from someone here.

If you don't want to cheat, you can try to chain one via SOS battles. But even then I don't think the chances of a 6IV are very good, and it takes a very long time.

There's a bot that will give you one via the gts for a Ledyba if it's still running. You'll need this and a destiny knot on the ditto for ideal breeding time.
