Thinking about getting homebrew on my 3ds for pokemon, what are the repercussions?
headaches

None. If you do even a small step wrong, you can brick yourself, though, so pay close attention to guides and don't be afraid to ask /vg/'s hbg, though they'll probably rip you to shreds before answering your questions.

No? The guide's practically idiot proof already

I'll take your word for it.
I'm sure modding it will be a headache.
And maybe I want to be ripped to shreds

If you're talking about homebrew (and just homebrew, no CFW) then there's no risk of bricking at all. Homebrew run on the 3DS without a CFW runs in userland, so it cannot alter any system files. It's more restricted (no pirating at all) but you can still use save managers 'n shit.
CFW is a different story, it exploits the kernel and gives you full access to the system, but this means there can be a chance of bricking your system while installing it.

In the first place, is your 3ds on a firmware version that supports stand-alone entry point? I am guessing you don't have another 3ds that already has homebrew access so you can install a secondary entry point?

For real. Even if you mess up you can just restore from a backup which the guide explains with a lot of detail. I don't even see how you can brick it beyond repair. It's a bit tedious but miles easier than other cfw's.
