How does an artist profit from their work if they always want to shit on it with watermarks?

Commissions.
Many artists of ages pasts signed their work though; it's not a new practice. Plastering a watermark over the whole thing is stupid but the concept is fine.

I wonder what he can do If I just ignore 'em and use the art anyway.

He could send a C&D but since the characters aren't his intellectual property it wouldn't hold up in court.
Why would you want to though? Use something without a dA logo all over it. Pearl7's older stuff looks better than that anyway.

His art is simple enough that you could easily remove them using photoshop.

Working on a little project.
I'll keep the watermarks intact
It shouldn't really hurt the bigger picture.
