I assume this only counts people who have their game linked to a Global Link account. Which the game does not have a mandatory prompt or tutorial for at any point. Requires you to create a separate account outside of the game. And is regularly down for maintenance (like it was every time I tried) preventing you from doing anything with it.

The game seems to store all of that kind of information behind the scenes. It crops up when you have "battles" with other players in the festival that compare total exp. points gained, money spent, etc.

The game will transfer the total number of Pokemon caught (not bred or traded) between the dates of the event via Game Sync.
