Don't bother, it requires far more intelligence than your average smogonite has the capacity to hold within his miniscule amount of brian cells. In singles you can only use at most a petty 9 unique actions per turn, this is increased exponentially to 28 unique possible actions in doubles per turn which is enough to fry the minds of any poor smogon childs.

I'd say it has the benefits of being faster as well which makes it a good spectator sport, but GF fucked up hard with their new time system which means that you could very well see battles that last over an hour. The thread has mainly been about VGC vs Smogon not BSS vs Smogon, and you didn't specify singles, so I think I can be forgiven for assuming you meant the VGC ladder (for the part of the season when we had one). You're right that I don't know anything about BSS, but I do know plenty about VGC, and mega sableye was not viable in 2016 (which I assume you meant because DV was much less relevant before). It saw a bit of niche usage, but getting utterly destroyed by the heavy hitters of the format made it a way less reliable smeargle answer than safeguard zong/whimsi or any of the fake out/feint + taunt combos running around. It's pretty much in the same boat as Espeon - barring R's one regional run, it didn't see much success because smeargle users can play around it more easily than other answers.

It's down to 1/3 as of gen 6, which is fine. A doubles meta with protect banned would be pretty stupid, maneuvering with protect is one of the biggest strategic elements in doubles.
