Guys, I just had an idea.
What if Ash Greninja's Battle Bond is a true Mega Evolution? We now know that Mega evolving is an unnatural, sometimes painful process where the Pokemon is overloaded with energy and gets roid rage. Maybe the Mega stones and rings aren't needed, like they're amplifiers that force it when it's not otherwise possible or something.
Half of the Mega stones are unavailable in SM. Maybe they're being phased out, and replaced with true Megas.
Here's my idea. No stone or ring needed. A mega becomes available once max happiness is reached. You can use a special ability capsule to change its ability to Battle Bond.
The activation conditions would be different for some. Offensive ones would trigger when a KO happens, like Greninja. Others, like Audino, would happen when its doubles teammate takes damage, maybe?
Their ability would probably be Battle Bond, or maybe it'd change. Not sure how it'd work. Losing Thick Fat would ruin Mega Veusaur.
They'd also gain an altered signature move. Just running some ideas:
These all transform when they KO something unless stated otherwise.
Salamence: Loses Aerilate, gets a 50% damage boost on Wing Attack instead.
Kangaskhan: Loses Parental Bond. Double Hit gets a damage boost on the first hit.
Venusaur: Activates when it take damage or is statused. Synthesis now heals status and gives Venusaur leftovers healing for 3 turns.
Blastoise: Water Pulse deals double damage.
Charizard-X: Outrage no longer locks in or confuses.
Charizard-Y: Flamethrower activates sunny weather? Not sure about this one.
Alakazam: Could do something with Psychic, maybe give it Mold Breaker effects or make it hit both opponents in doubles?
Gengar: Shadow Ball traps like Spirit Shackle.
Pinsir: Aerial Ace gets a damage boost.
Gyarados: Activates when Crunch is used, maybe? Not sure about this one.
Aerodactyl: Wing Attack gets a damage boost, or Head Smash loses its recoil.
Mewtwo-Y: Amnesia boosts Special Attack too.

Mewtwo-X: Drain Punch gets a damage boost. Maybe make it hit Ghost-types.
Ampharos: Volt Switch bypasses Ground immunity and ignores abilities like Lightningrod.
Scizor: Damage Boost for Bullet Punch. +2 priority?
Heracross: Arm Thrust gets a damage boost and always hits 5 times.
Houndoom: Flamethrower gets Mold Breaker effects.
Tyranitar: Stone Edge gets an accuracy boost. Hits both opponents in doubles.
Blaziken: Blaze Kick gets an accuracy boost.
Gardevoir: Moonblast gets a boost. Higher damage? Bypasses Substitutes? Boosts Defense one stage?
Mawile: Play Rough boosts Attack by one stage, or just deals double damage.
Aggron: Activates when it takes damage. Iron Defense gains a HP recovery effect. Becomes a healing move that boosts Defense too, basically.
Medicham: I don't know. How do you replace Pure Power?
Manectric: Volt Switch also lowers Attack and Special Attack like Parting Shot.
Banette: Priority Will-o-wisp.
Absol: Just let it keep Magic Bounce.
Garchomp: Earthquake deals 50% more damage to mons that resist it.
Lucario: Aura Sphere deals 50% more damage when Lucario has less that 25% health.
Abomasnow: Blizzard gains 100% accuracy and activates 8 turn Hail.
Beedrill: Twineedle now hits 4 times.
Pidgeot: Hurricane becomes 100% accurate, deals double damage to resistances.
Slowbro: Activates when it takes damage. Psychic activates Safeguard and Lucky Chant for 3 turns.
Steelix: Activates when it takes damage. Heavy Slam knocks down Flying types and Levitators.
Sceptile: Keeps Lightningrod. Maybe make Dragon Pulse hits Steels super effectively, or something.
Swampert: Activates in Rain. Keeps Swift Swim.
Sableye: Activates when a bounceable move is used. Keeps Magic Bounce. Recover gets +1 priority.
Sharpedo: Crunch gets a damage boost.
Camerupt: Eruption deals full damage until Camerupt falls below 25% HP. Then, it deals halved damage.

Altaria: Loses Pixilate. Sing becomes a recovery move that cures status as well. Doesn't affect opponents anymore.
Glalie: Loses Refrigerate. Freeze-Dry deals double damage.
Metagross: Meteor Mash makes it Levitate for the rest of the turn, like a reverse Roost.
Latios and Latias: Mist Ball and Luster Purge get a damage boost.
Rayquaza: Loses Deltra Stream. Dragon Ascent lowers Attack and Defense instead of Special Defense (Flying-type Superpower instead of Close Combat). Alternatively, Dragon Dance now boosts Attack, Speed, Defense, and Special Defense one stage.
Lopunny: High Jump Kick has 100% accuracy and hits Ghost types.
Gallade: Damage boost for Psycho Cut.
Audino: Activates when it, or a teammate takes damage. Heal Pulse gain +3 priority and heals status too.
Diancie: Keeps Magic Bounce.

Interesting theory anon. I did notice while going through mega dex entries that most of them outside of slowbro had an entry that mentioned them going mad or enraged.
