Pokemon seems to be going through Yugioh Syndrome, where they abandon one mechanic and focus everything they have onto their newest idea, before abandoning that one for something else.

Let's hope we get an Arc-V renaissance where they give us everything.

Pokémon games tend to have unique mechanics. Contests, secret bases, pokathalon, underground, movie making, radio... some things, like character customization, stick around.

Battle mechanics always stay, they just never expand on them. Everything else is free to be cut.

The only exception in the history of battle mechanics being cut is battle formats being removed in Sun/Moon.
