It ignores any abilities that would otherwise hinder your attack.

Using earthquake on levitate is pretty much the only time it'll come in handy. But it lets you kill in one hit on sturdy pokemon, any ability that gives you an immunity is ignored, mimikyu's imposter never activates, Fluffy/fur coat have no don't give the boost I think, and more
