The E4 in SM use Z-moves as well as coverage moves. They are unironically the most difficult E4 in Pokemon history.
XY E4 was a fucking joke, even for Pokemon.

The restores are fine and all but they only have one item in the entire party, a single z crystal... no lefties, no berries, nothing to make the fight strategic in any way, it really just came down to be just about as bad as xy in that respect.

Hala rematch was the hardest fight in the entire game for me.

It's essentially impossible to beat the first time you face it if you don't use any items to heal.

They're legit hard.

Hala's Hariyama almost swept my entire team on the first playthrough

Gotta say, I really enjoyed the elite four fights, definitely better than X and Y. Although, of the four, the battle with Kahili and her Skarmory caught me off guard. Didn't down it fast enough to avoid the sea of spikes it set up. She ended up giving me the most trouble surprisingly.

I found that the AI appears to only know if a move is "supereffective" against you...Kahili skarmory would not stop using spikes against my A-Marowak despite the fact that they did nothing to it and I was setting up during the fact.

This is by far the worst team I've ever had in 20 years of playing this game, I'm actuslly embarrassed to post it.

The E4 rematches haven't improved all that much, sadly. Same Pokemon, they're all level 63, and the final battle is randomized between a select few trainers from levels 59 to 65, depending on the trainer. You'll be fine.

I fought the elite four after I beat the game, so my my whole team is around level 60, I can't beat one of them.

It's funny how for all its overbearing handholding and constant tutorials, SM was actually a step up in difficulty with the totem pokemon and elite four and champion and fucking Lusamine

In postgame I came very close to losing to Anabel in the motel too

Hala, olivia, and acerola weren't too bad. Kahili really pushed some buttons.

Kukui....good lord kukui and that fucking owl. No lie the only reason I won that was because I cheesed full restores and revives and let it brave bird itself to death since my pokemon kept holding on by one point to not make me sad...multiple fucking times.

levels 49-51 with only Primarina, Lycanroc night, and salazzle suriving in the end.
